  • Safety

Tree felling is primarily undertaken when trees are impacting dangerously on their surroundings. This can include:

  • If the structure of nearby buildings is compromised.
  • If subsidence occurs because of tree roots.
  • If trees become unstable.
  • If trees are impacting overhead cables.

In these instances, trees pose a serious risk to buildings and the public and must be professionally felled. Speak to us for more information about tree felling in the UK for safety.

  • Disease

Tree felling can be required in the unfortunate circumstance of disease. Diseased trees can sadly pose a major threat to the environment and they must be examined by a tree surgeon or arborist.

If you believe that a tree in your garden or landscape may be diseased, get in touch with us to discuss your options.

  • Visuals

Tree felling for aesthetic reasons is becoming more and more common across the UK. Although you may not be allowed to fell particular trees by law, some trees are cut down to:

HOW DO YOU FELL A TREE?

Tree felling can be completed quickly and efficiently when you contact expert tree surgeons to complete the job for you. We can complete your tree felling needs safely and efficiently.

Here are those steps simplified…

  1. We will visit and assess the trees that need to be felled.
  2. The complete removal of a large tree can often require removing it piece by piece safely lowering each section to the ground a process known as section felling or dismantling.
  3. Using pulling ropes/cables and felling wedges we will control the fall of your trees and the location they will land in.
  4. We will use crash matting or similar protective equipment.
  5. Once the trees have been felled, we will remove them from your grounds.
  6. We will clean up before we leave.

DO YOU NEED PERMISSION TO FELL TREES?

Before felling a tree, it’s essential to seek advice from your local council or the relevant government department:

  • Forestry Commission (England)
  • Scottish Forestry
  • Natural Resources Wales
  • Northern Ireland Forest Service

Contact us for more information on what you need from your local council before we work.

FELLING A TREE IN YOUR GARDEN

If you are a homeowner, you won’t need permission to fell a tree that’s within your garden unless:

1. It’s subject to a Tree Preservation Order

2. It’s in a conservation area.

If you’re a tenant in a rented property you’ll need to seek your landlord’s permission first. Furthermore, if there is any injury or damage caused to your neighbour or their property, you will be liable for it. Additionally, if a tree trunk is in your garden, your neighbour has a right to cut back any overhanging branches.

Felling Licences

If outside of a private garden, tree felling may require a felling licence. If a tree amounts to five cubic metres of timber by volume, it’s an offence to fell without one. Once again, we recommend speaking to local councils or relevant government departments.

OUR TREE FELLING FAQs

I’M A RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMER, WILL YOU NEED ACCESS TO MY HOME?

We typically don’t need access to our client’s homes as long as there is external access around your property that we can use to move our equipment and any trees, branches or other debris through.

WHAT IF MY TREE IS PROTECTED?

If you have a protected tree that you wish to fell, you may require permits to do so. In this circumstance, we can speak to local councils on your behalf and can even complete applications if needed.

HOW MUCH NOISE WILL YOU MAKE?

Due to the nature of the work, tree felling will cause an amount of disruption. Although some noise is unavoidable, we work efficiently to try to make sure this is kept to a minimum.
